Santa Claus, Christmas Lights, Parades

~2017~

In memory of Ralph Lemley, who passed away November 1st, 2017, was a pine tree donated from West Bethlehem township. The 6 foot tree was placed next to the Marianna library in remembrance of Ralph, who volunteered for many years at West Beth Park. Ralph is especially remembered by young and old alike for his role in the area as Santa Claus for 16 years! Ralph played Santa at local churches, Marianna Volunteer Fire Company, Marianna American Legion, and Marianna Sportsman Club Christmas party.

A tree-lighting event was held at the Marianna Community Library in  honor of Ralph for his dedication to the community. Unfortunately, the tree did not survive the following year and it was replaced by resident Lisa Scherer,

Ralph's father-in-law, Chester Shriver (Buck) played Santa in Marianna for 24 years before Ralph, starting in 1977. Whenever someone called Chester for him to make an appearance as Santa, Chester would find out where the person lived and how many children would be at the house. His family helped him make up a 100 bags of fruit and candy for every child; beforehand they'd make a trip to the Pittsburgh strip district and help load his pick-up truck with fruits. As Santa, Chester visited Rudnicks to surprise the adults. The waitresses loved him!

Ralph will forever be in many hearts and Christmas memories, as will Chester.

Ralph's son (Chester's grandson) Brandon Lemley played Santa in 2017. Area children were happy to tell whether or not they've been good or bad and what toys they hope to find under the tree. Families enjoyed pancakes with Santa Claus before the annual Christmas parade sponsored by the Marianna Library, at the Marianna Volunteer Fire Company.

HO! HO! HO!

Family Lights up West Beth Township

The Alderson family and their neighbors have outdone themselves this year. Christmas lights and decorations decorate Bayne Avenue. It is worth the drive by with the kiddos if you want to get in the spirit of the holiday. Amazing!

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
