West Beth Hiking Trail Tree Markers

Several tree identification markers were donated to West Beth Township, by Lisa Scherer. They were put up by volunteers on the West Beth Hiking Trail. Many of the trees growing along the trail especially at the top, are mostly black locust. But there are black cherry, boxelder, and a small variety of other trees that grow on the former brownfield site. The boxelder is frequently found in neglected urban areas and rural bottom-lands and is often referred to as the "trash tree". Trees and plants are a cost effective way to clean soil and water at Brownfield sites.  Wildflowers, berries, shrubs (some non-native and invasive)also grow at the 150-acre area along Jefferson Avenue, Marianna, Pa. Some people have said that the scenery at the top is the most beautiful view in all of Washington county.

Also on the trail, are art pieces like this tiny fairy door that appears to be the house of a gnome. Maybe it's a door to the trees spirit?

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
