Spring Blue-eyed Mary (Collinsia verna) on Spring Valley Road In West Bethlehem Township

Spring Blue-eyed Mary is native to North America. It is endangered in New York and Tennessee. On Spring Valley road each year the dainty blue flowers blanket a woodland area along Daniels run stream.

The name of the road is perfect. This valley of spring flowers is why residents and out-of-towners return to tour the area each year in Spring.

But the flowers don't last long.

In only a few short weeks the annuals will be gone. They will drop their seeds by summer and germinate seedlings by fall. By next spring the wondrous scene will be repeated, with new blue carpet in patches all over the forest floor.

Other places you can find Blue-eyed Mary in the area: Oak Spring Road, Lone Pine Marianna Road, Topsail Road, Jefferson Avenue.

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
