Pittsburg Buffalo Company Brick Stamp Mold

As an artist, I made a mold from an old Pittsburg Buffalo Co stamp on a brick. The wedge shape is that of a Keystone, a central wedge in an arch that locks all other pieces of an arc in place. Pennsylvania's essential role in founding the United States earned it the nickname the "Keystone" State. Pittsburg Buffalo Company built the mining town of Marianna in 1907. The Johnetta Plant of the United States Sewer Pipe Company owned by the Jones family made all the yellow bricks for the Marianna houses.

The molds didn't turn out too bad. The larger yellow brick had a smaller stamp area with a beveled edge, different than the small red brick with a large stamp area and straight edge. I used polymer clay which I baked. With some creativity, I'm sure these can be turned into some kind of ornament for a holiday history tree.

They make great keepsake ornaments to give away as gifts. But to be honest, I did not take my time with these. The hour was late, and I was cleaning up some of my supplies, so I wanted to do the project and move on to something else. If I try it again, I will get an equal thickness and post an update. Silicone also made a better mold.

If you know what happened to the original stamper, let me know by leaving a comment.

Did you know that on July 19th, 1911, the United States Geographic Board held a special meeting to reconsider spelling Pittsburgh without an "H"? The form Pittsburgh, with an H, was then adopted. (visitpittsburgh.com)
