APRIL-2nd-Arley George Shrontz, 56, died. Arley joined his father-in-law in business and became a licensed funeral director serving Marianna and surrounding areas.

NOVEMBER-3rd-Education: The Great Horn Swoggle published by Time Magazine. 

NOTES-Exposed in the October issue of "The William & Mary Quarterly" is the Horn Papers fraud: "In view of the fact that intensive investigation failed to discover a shred of evidence to substantiate the authenticity of the documents and on the contrary, found convincing evidence of their spuriousness, it is our opinion that the primary material in The Horn Papers is a fabrication and therefore that historians and genealogists ought not to rely on any data in Volumes I and II. Volume III, on the other hand, containing warrant, survey and patent maps prepared by the Pennsylvania Land Office, is valuable". A booklet titled "The History of The Christian Church, Marianna, Pennsylvania 1947" is published. Joe Glad miner, first went into the Marianna Mine in 1947. His father told him to pay close attention to sounds in the mine that if a miner heard a crack and saw mice running he should get to safety (as told in a 2017 article in Observer Reporter (article).
