Monarch Butterflies in Marianna
Several dozen Monarch butterflies were released in Marianna by a few local gardeners in September. Raising butterflies is a pastime for adults and children in the United States. The Monarch butterfly population is in decline and one way to help them recover is to raise them indoors and later release them outdoors for their long journey south. Droughts, loss of habitats, and pesticides are primary reasons for their decline.
Monarch butterflies life up to 2 to 6 weeks, however, the last generation can live up to 9 months.
