~Albert Miller, a Washington County farmer, stumbled upon a groundhog hole on his family’s farm in Avella and uncovered what looked to be a prehistoric tool. Two decades later he got in touch with a professor who found the object was a prehistoric flint knife. The site was later excavated and yielded nearly two million artifacts, ancient tools, etc. and eventually the site became known as Meadowcroft village.
