Mine Safety

There were many coal mine accidents in the early 1900's, as well as steel plant, railroad, and mill accidents. Accidents still occur today but in the United States industrial jobs have become much safer. Safety First by Mark Aldrich shows what a journey we've been on when it comes to safety in the workplace. This is a great read for anyone interested in mining history, although the book does reflect other occupations. Aldrich provides a valuable account of the safety movement. One thing is certain, working conditions in the mine at at the turn of the century were horrible! You won't want to put this book down, it's that good.
