Invasive Vines in Marianna
Oriental Bittersweet can damage trees as they twist and bend around them and even uproot a tree if heavy enough.
Although their invasive quality is unattractive, the braid patterns are intriguing, beautiful, and art. Nonetheless, their damage is highly aggressive and damaging to natural areas, and they should be cut out and destroyed immediately. Oriental Bittersweet is native to Asia. It has been in the United States since about 1860.
Early stages of Oriental Bittersweet, not to be mistaken for non-invasive American Bittersweet.
Native Wild grapevines can also damage trees. Removing wild grapevines mechanically, without toxic chemicals, is best. However, wild grapes are an essential food source for birds, so controlling the vine, rather than eradicating it, is worth considering.
