Once upon a time, Marianna Borough used to be a coal-mining town with several hundred yellow-brick houses that housed hundreds of miners and their families. Today, most of the yellow houses remain, and the majority of residents no longer work in the mine; they work outside of the area in factories, stores, restaurants, schools, farms, hospitals, gas stations, beauty shops, or garages. Some are carpenters, plumbers, electricians, computer technicians, truckers, and coal miners. Some are also self-employed or unemployed.
