Marches by Sousa - American Marches

John Philip Sousa's Band was famous in the late 1800's. Sousa was a composer and conductor known for his American military marches. Some of his greatest hits I have heard a time or two at an event or amusement park.

On another musical note, there was Bill Murray's (not the groundhog guy) early song "Cheyenne" that was popular in 1906. Murray was considered one of American's best-selling recording artists. The Marianna Lyceum, or arcade, would have had Vaudeville performances in the early part of the 20th century. Take a listen to some old Vaudeville songs here.

I wonder what music-lovers then would think of songs by Motley Crue or Miley Cyrus today? I imagine there would be an uproar like when Elvis Presley performed his hip-shaking "Hound Dog" song in 1956 on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Since the 50's there have been some very controversial music and music videos. I wonder what the music will be like in year 3000. If humans are still here to sing, that is.

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
