Samuel Grable's father was Joseph G. Grable, born 1770, who arrived in West Bethlehem Township from Frederick, Maryland. Joseph had three sons and four daughters with Barbara Carver Garber between 1793 and 1814. One son, Samuel, whom lived on what we now know as Grable Road, had a son named Eli, who also had land on Grable Road (in and about the area that is now Girdish property as of 2024).

Samuel was widowed by 1900, according to the United States Federal Census. His wife Amy Grable (Wherry) died December 29th, 1895. His children are Eldora, John, William, George, Mary, Sanford, Eli, James, Oliver. His name is listed on the U.S Civil War Draft Registration Record. He died on July 3rd, 1907, age 70.

Eli married Naomi Agnes Howden. Together they had one son, Haven Eli Grable. Haven married Cecile Dague, and had one son, Haven Paul Grable Jr., who died at birth in 1937. Eli and Naomi were living in Cokeburg, Pa by 1910. He is listed in the census at that time as an engineer in the industry of "Coal Hoisting".
