New Marianna Borough Walking Trail

Marianna Borough has a newly paved walking trail. The trail dedication ceremony was December 2nd, 2023. The trail is approx. 0.51 miles, which is approximately 2,719 feet. About 2 times around is a mile (one mile is 5,280 feet).

Stay on the trail and avoid straying from the designated path for safety reasons. However, you can still enjoy some beautiful views from the trail, such as the remaining older buildings from the old mine, including the water plant.

Hoist house, Garage/Maintenance building?

Old wall soon to hold a coal mine mural?

The Marianna Borough trail holds significant potential, given its proximity to the creek and the rich history that surrounds it. It's encouraging to witness improvements taking place in such a promising location. Moreover, it's essential to recognize that a portion of this land holds sacred significance, marked by the Marianna mine explosion in 1908.

Naming the trail in honor of the mine's legacy would be a fitting tribute. Perhaps "Marianna Mine Memorial Trail" would be a suitable choice?

Additionally, several trees were planted last year along the trail, symbolizing a commitment to environmental restoration and renewal. Great job!

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
