2024 Flooding/Landslide

What should be snow in early April is torrential rain, leaving mudslides in Marianna, and the surrounding area.

This section along State Route 2020, near Oak Spring Road and further upstream, is partly elevated due to the presence of the low-head dam in Marianna Borough, which also impacts the roads in West Bethlehem Township. Low-head dams are known to affect water levels upstream and can potentially influence floodplain dynamics, exacerbating flooding issues. The removal of the dam could mitigate flooding and alleviate the challenges faced by emergency vehicles, school buses, and commuters due to road closures caused by flooding, which occurs several times a year.
