Nichol Funeral Home History

Nichol Funeral Home was established in 1883, making it one of the oldest funeral homes in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Located on Main Street in Marianna, it began during a time when funeral services were often provided by furniture makers and undertakers working out of their homes or small storefronts. As Marianna grew—especially during the coal boom in the early 1900s—the funeral home became an essential part of the community, helping families through both everyday losses and major tragedies like the 1908 mine disaster. Quietly and steadily, the Nichol family built a reputation for care and dignity that would carry through generations.
