Local Books

Available at Marianna Community Public Library will supplies last.

Nancy Martin Shidler, whose family owned the Martin Mill Farm in Amwell twp, had "Nancy Martin Country Gal" published in 1950 by Christopher Publishing House. While the book is no longer in print, there are a few local libraries who have it to borrow, including Marianna Community Public Library and Bentleyville Library. The book was later reproduced by Nancy Martin Shidler's great grandson Scott Horne (son of Virginia Horne, one of the founders of Marianna Community Public Library).

If you love history, especially local history, you'll love this book. The times in the late 1800's and early 1900's are brought to life in the way of how families traveled; what they wore; life on a farm; causes of death; how they celebrated; school, church, communication, and community happenings.

Nancy was born August 12, 1869 in Washington County. She died on August 2, 1956 at the age of 86. She was the daugther of Morgan Martin and Ann Reese. Her husband was Joseph William Shidler whom she married in 1896. Together they had 6 children.
