Marianna's Peace Tomato

The last of the tomatoes in our garden were "Marianna's Peace" heirloom tomatoes, which I purchased locally as a plant at Robison Acres (located in West Beth twp).
The tomatoes are large, juicy, meaty and have a not-so-acidic flavor. Great for sauce, salsa, and tomato sandwiches. Apparently the name of the tomato was named after Marianne Worschech Tibbetts (1927-2013). She was born in Czechoslovakia and later moved to the U.S after marrying an American soldier. Her family life on a farm changed during World War 1 when the Russians came and took her and other children to a labor camp. Be sure to read the full story via the above link.

At taste trials in 1999 and 2000 "Marianna's Peace" tomato was judged the best-tasting tomato (SEE HERE).

Robison Acres has a variety of plants and Betty and bee-keeper John can tell you a thing or two about the importance of planting native plants.

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
