DIY Plantain Salve

Plantain pretty much grows in every yard and field here in Marianna. And it grows well into late fall. It makes a useful salve to soothe insect bites and poison ivy itch, plus helps heal minor cuts.

Ingredients

The plantain was dried first in a dehydrator (an oven works, too). Then a good organic olive oil was added to act as a carrier oil. A carrier oil is an essential oil made from plants.

1/3 cup dried plantain
1/2 cup organic olive oil
1/3 beeswax
8 drops of tea tree oil

Directions

Infuse the olive oil with the dried plantain by putting both in a jar for a week. Strain the oil and put it into a clean jar. Melt beeswax using a double boiler, be sure to watch it carefully. Remove from heat. While it's still hot add the infused oil to the melted beeswax. Stir it gently until everything is mixed. Pour the liquid into the tins. Leave it to sit still until the liquid hardens. Use as needed.

Maybe our future doesn't have to be based upon the past.
