JANUARY-2nd-Robert W. Bercosky is elected chairman of the West Bethlehem township board of supervisors at the annual meeting held at the municipal building. Robert Mercante is vice chairman and Michael Barshick, supervisor. Kenneth Yablonski is named solicitor and LeVaughn Horne, secretary/treasurer. Eleanor Kacvincsky is township wage tax collector and Mona Lee Mihalek is real estate tax collector. Road master is Donald Kurtz. Auditors are Anna B. McCarty, Verna Kite, and Eda Niverth. Steve Shimrock is township constable. For the water department, the book keeper is Mildred Levandosky, and Gary Behm meter reader, Eleanor Guy is water bill collector.
There are no new taxes planned for West Beth and the board adopted a budget of $66,358. The real-estate levy will remain at six and one-half mills, the occupational privilege tax at $5, the per capita tax at $4, and the wage tax at one-half percent.
APRIL-10th-Oscar Charles Hutchinson, 86, died. Marianna resident since 1946. Worked at Bethlehem Steel Corp. Mine 58.
MAY-18th-At the West Bethlehem Township monthly public meeting, the supervisors enacted an ordinance authorizing the issuance of $16,000 principal amount of the townships General Obligation Note, and the private sale thereof First National Bank & Trust Company, Washington, Pa, at par, bearing interest at the rate of 5 percent per annum and requiring an annual debt service of $3,500.00.

Notes-Sometime this year West Bethlehem Township supervisors discuss hiring a part-time police officer. Later they hire two part-time police officers. Twp supervisors announce they will be cracking down on ordinances, primarily focusing on the junk yard and junk vehicle ordinances. The construction of Water Supply systems in the Marianna area is discussed by officials, the line will cross ten mile creek. The township also grants permission for Marianna Borough police to make arrests in West Bethlehem Township. Sometime this same year new officers are elected in the twp, one being Robert Mercante elected as Chairman of West Bethlehem township board of supervisors.
The federal minimum wage is $1.60.
