The Unnatural Natural History of Marianna

Early this year, and at the end of 2021, articles were published about the popular Bradford pear tree being added to the Pennsylvania noxious weed list. The Japanese Barberry was also mentioned because it too made the list. This is also good news, and need I say "finally"!

I've not had any issues with the Bradford Pear tree here on our property, but both the Bradford Pear and Japanese Barberry are found in several places in Marianna. Japanese Barberry is a plant I have especially struggled to remove next to our house since we've lived here. And this past fall I have aggressively gone at it again, to remove the invasive plant by digging deeper, using more vinegar, and pouring pots of boiling water over it (never chemicals). This spring I will finally know if this more serious approach was a success.

To be continued.

Update-It's gone. I dug and dug and dug to find the very end of the plant, then added boiling water and vinegar and left the hole open for over a week, and applied more of the same. It is finally gone!
