Marianna Borough Mine Company House Mason Jar Luminary Paper House Cloche Ornament
A sweet little miners' house for a holiday display. The finished piece allowed for easy access to turn on and off the battery-operated tealight.
Materials used for Luminary:
House print on heavy card stock
White card-stock
32-ounce Wide Mouth Mason jar with lid
Xacto knife and cutting mat
Fabri-tac
Scissors
LED battery-operated tealight
Embellishments (Optional): Poly-fill (I used stuffing from an old pillow, white paint for snow, a miniature pine tree, and white lace.
I cut out the parts and scored along the lines for folding. Cut a door in the back of the house for tucking in battery-operated light (be sure it opens and closes). Along the eaves of the roof, I added fabri-tac to seal it and held it until dry. I cut out a 1.5" X 8" strip of card stock to make a pedestal band, placed the cut circle with ruffles over the band top, and glued the edges down. Lace was added around the edge of the band top. Chimney glued in place. The house was then glued to the band top, and paint and poly-fill were added for a snow effect in various spots. Tree glued to the side of the house.
You can skip the luminary and just create your own paper house ornament.
----------Another Version of a Marianna Company House----------
These sweet little historical houses that resemble Marianna company homes, although they were 2 and 3 stories, where miners and their families lived, are a great project for children. They also get a bit of history, as I decided to add some history of the homes on the bottom panel.
Feel free to print out the bottom image for private use only HERE on the heavy cardstock paper for durability.
